Salt Creek Wilderness is the northern section of the greater Bitter Lake NWR. This is a pretty cool place when you take the time to explore it. The sinkholes scattered across the property are very interesting to see in this otherwise very dry area. Be prepared for a primitive hiking experience though. The property is a wilderness area so there are only a few dirt roads and parking lots for access. There are no facilities or areas to get drinking water and there are no dedicated trails other than the dirt roads. Aside from the sinkholes the Pecos River flows through here and there are some pretty red foothills in the northern part of the property. Lots of quail, cottontails, jackrabbits, wildflowers, and lizards can be seen here as well as ducks and dragonflies around the sinkholes.

It's nice
